New chicken mom

So I have 4 chickens. My little Rhode Island Red laid her first egg today. I’m so beyond thrilled.
I might be dumb. I have heard different opinions from people who have raised them. I’m curious, now that she has laid her first egg, will she lay regularly? I mean I won’t have to wait another week or 2 before she lays another one, right?

Typically, she may rest a day or two, but usually, they do have a few glitches, like a sort shell, blood on the shell, etc. it’s important to feed calcium during the time. She should lay daily soon enough though. Unless there is not enough daylight

Definitely getting their calcium. And daylight is not a problem for sure. Thank you so much. I’ve been searching all day for an answer.

It depends on the chicken. Some are wonky for a few weeks as their bodies get settled, others move straight into a laying routine.

My California White has only missed one day since she started laying in early December. One of my Blue Australorps lays 6-7 eggs per week unless broody. The other lays 6 a week reliably while the Light Brahma and the SLW lay about 5 eggs per week.

Hi, saw your thread , it made me smile as I remembered my ‘first egg!’ It seemed such a shame to eat it !!!
Elsa laid it and then sang a LOUD happy chicken song to tell the world how great she was !!!
One year later she lays approx 4-5 eggs each week and still sings her LOUD happy song each time, enjoy your chookies!
