Also, my brooder is inside in my living room. It's not nasty but was wondering the best way to clean it out. Doesn't smell real bad but it is starting to get a smell other than pine shavings lol!
I bought a used vinyl/flannel backed table cloth at a thrift shop for a few dollars and put it under the shavings with the vinyl/slippery side down. then when it was time to change it out I could just put the chicks in a little box, pull out the entire table cloth, dump in the trash can and then lay it back down and cover with shavings. Mmmm that wonderful chickie smell!! Gets pretty strong by 3 weeks so I moved them to the garage from about 3 weeks old until I moved them outside at 6 weeks.
That is a good idea about the table cloth, I will try that! But I don't have a garage! We moved out onto 18 acres about 8 months ago and are in a trailer right now for about 2 years. My husband has a shed but there is no heat in there. Right now I have this huge container in the middle of my den! Just wonder if they would be safe enough out there???

I know the brooder I purchased back in 1997, the manufacturer offers a pad that goes under the brooder to catch the drooping's and it some how reduces the order as long as the pad is changed every week or several days depending on how many chicks are in the brooder but any how it really works very well and holds the liquid very well like a dipper would and to tell you the reality of it all the sales lady did a good job that day on selling the brooder and explained it's good points very well even though it was a little pricy ........

Then after 3 to 4 weeks of age it is time to go to the outside
holding cage and by week 6 the growing coop till week 20
to week 30

Not sure I would trust a shed for both safety and heat concerns. But, I had 14 chicks so it got stinky and dusty pretty quickly. Less chicks, less smell! And, if I had to deal with it I would have but since I had the option to move them out it was nice.
