Welcome to BYC!

We recently got chicks as well! I've heard the heat has been very bad lately, but where we are, it actually is kind of cool. And it won't stop raining! My chicks pen almost flooded.

Welcome to the wonderful world of chickens! Best of luck to you!

P.S. Where did you buy them?

The heat is crazy here! It's topping out at 113 and 115 this week. I've been putting out ice blocks in water bowls for our flock daily and the poor things lay around them. Thinking of adding misters but need to research anything to be careful of.

We got our flock from a variety of places. Some from a local rare breed breeder, and the rest from various feed stores.

Looking forward to being able to ask our newbie questions! :)

I was just wondering because it was such a beautiful variety. I love to be able to tell my chickens apart from one another. We got our 18 from McMurray Hatchery. The only breed I got two of was the Buff Brahmas, and that's because they only sold them straight run and I wanted to try my luck at getting a hen.

I would love to see some pictures!

(My chicks on day one and again around a week and a half later)

A fan is a great idea!! Our poor girls and roo have gone through six gallons of ice today alone :/

I'll see if I can add a few pics. Half of our flock is outside (they're around 4 mos old) and the other half are a few weeks away from going outside (in their own little area of course for a while).

The coop/run Phase 1 (Phase 2 will cover coop and expand exact same size on other side with additional weather protection). We've enclosed the top of the run and added a shade structure since this pic was taken.
