Hello! My name is Theresa and my homestead is firefly lane. In the last 4 months i built my chicken coop from pallets and started with 2 roos. My friends were suppose to give me a roo and a hen but decided that they wanted to give me 2 roos. Im not going to complain because hey free chickens right? Wrong. 1 turned out to be a chicken killer which is another story in its self. In the last month i bought 9 week old bantam frizzel cochins and bantam cochins and recently rescued another rooster .my chicken adventures have been nothing but challenge after challenge. Between cocci and roosters fighting to having to cull my rooster everything i needed ive found on her. I decided it would be best to make an account and get real time answers answer. Im excited to be apart of this site and thank everyone in advance!

Hi Theresa and welcome to BYC. It sounds like you have experienced a rather steep learning curve, so far.

On this link you'll find lots of information on almost every aspect of keeping birds - from coop building ideas, to incubating eggs - https://www.backyardchickens.com/articles/

There’s a link on the page above to the Learning Centre - it’s a great resource. If you have a specific topic in mind, just type it in the search box - there's a wealth of information on past and present threads.

Each week, various topics are discussed, which can also be a great resource - https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/topic-of-the-week-thread-archive

Hi Theresa. Welcome to BYC. You didn't say where your homestead is. You can add your location to your profile when you add a profile/avatar pic.
There is definitely a learning curve with chickens. We are all so fortunate to have a forum like this to share & learn from each other.

Welcome to BYC! Hope you enjoy your stay! :woot
This site has been amazing with my hens and ducks (Which flew away). Anyways Its been amazing! its basically 24/7 help

Roosters need at least 7 to 10 hens to themselves in order to not fight, but sometimes they still will anyway. My advice... get rid of at least one rooster, whichever one seems more aggressive.
