We have 7 little chicks about 3 weeks old. 4 New Hampshire Reds and 3 Dominques mixed
I have them in the foyer and would like to move them into garage or coop with a heater.
They love to come say hi to me. Love treats and will land on my hand. Starting to feather and fly.

We are camping this weekend and I been home 2 times a day
I have a camera on them and saw they dumped their food.
So now I have the small food dish with bottle duct tapes to a metal tin full of rocks. I got a infra red heater without the light.
I used the red light the first week and we were too hot and the chicks liked the new heat better.

I tried the brooder heat stand and they didn’t like it. Even made a broody hen.

Okay I am new at this.
I am hoping I am doing good.
How does anyone leave them?

I also am building a run 8 by 12 feet and the coop is about 7 by 5 feet. The coop we got used and it is made well!

Any advice on food dishes? How to keep them stable?
They are in a large card board box and we are hoping to let them free range in the future.

Bring on the advice!

At this point I am thinking my vacation is not going well! Lol

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I have a built in brooder in my coop and used a brooder plate. I fed my chicks out of a trough.
As for vacationing when you are raising chicks, it's not a good idea! They need to be checked a couple of times a day for pasty butt and given food and fresh water. It's just too risky IMO.

I been checking butts, not sure what pasty butt is. But they seem to do great!
They are 3 weeks and starting to fly! I found two roosting on the feeder! So now it is duct taped!

Currently looking for other people raising chickens to maybe swap vacation times. I am camping 1 hour away. And been home 2 times a day.

Also have friend checking in on them. And have a live feed camera on them. These chicks are spoiled!

Did you know you can turn an old phone into a camera?!

Do you have a picture of your brooder?
