Hello from New Orleans. I randomly came across this group when i was searching for what i can put on the ground level of my coop and figured this is a fantastic group to learn about how to be a good chicken mommy..lol. I have 5 precious girls. I only intended on getting 3, but a customer at the feed store told me of i wanted 3 i should get 5 because at least 2 would die. Well, that didn't happen so I'm hoping my coop will be big enough for my girls. 3 of the girls are about 5 weeks old and the other 2 are about 8 weeks old. We purposely got 5 different breeds but I am embarrassed to admit I can only remember the breed of one (polish lace, pretty easy to remember and identify, lol) I think there is also an Orpington, an Australorp and maybe a Plymouth Rock and Leghorn.. I'm a terrible mommy!! I look forward to learning from y'all and hopefully my endless newbie questions won't drive you crazy![]

This is my coop... however, my plan is that the girls will have half of the backyard to roam during the day and only go into the coop at night. They are still in a large rabbit cage because from what I've read, they can't be in the coop without a heat lamp until 4 months old.

Welcome to Backyard chickens, hope you will enjoy it as much as we do :wee
No need to apologize for not knowing the names of breeds. The folks at the store could have done that for you but, I bet they had no idea either.

If you post photos(and age) at "what breed or gender is this," the good folks there will sort them out for you. I really like the black & white one but, I can't think of what breed it would be either.
