Hi, everyone! I became an urban chicken mommy this week as a gift to myself, oh...and my kids, for my 40th birthday. I spent my first decade of life on a farm so I thought it was important to share some of that with my children. Only my four youngest are at home still. They were adopted from foster care and I try to teach them important life lessons but don't feel like that is an easy job anymore in this day and age; with the added speed bump of behavioral issues.
In addition to be a mom of five wonderful kids, ages 11, 12, 13, 14, and 20, I also am a mommy to a 13 year old maltese, who thinks he should live here with me only, a 12 year old lab/shepherd mix, a 1 year old crested gecko, who was left behind by my oldest son, and now four beautiful 5 week old chicks...all pullets, I hope.
I spent many, many (an embarrassingly large number of) hours on BYC before I knew for sure I could do this urban chicken farm thing in a small-ish yard in a suburb of Des Moines, Iowa. I believe with a community like this one I will be pretty good at this.
