In the Brooder
Hi everyone
my name is Alli and I have very recently gotten into the chook world. I have 21 chicks currently (was supposed to be 20 but we got an extra orphan Annie thrown in by accident
) who are around 3 and a half weeks old, and this is my first time raising chickens (though we did have a couple when I was very young). However I've raised ducks previously. I also have 4 turkey poults (2 white and 2 bronze).
Our chicks are mostly Production Reds (I think there are 8) New Hampshire Reds (5) and Ameraucanas (7) but we have one little orphan black one who may be a black sex link who I affectionately refer to as "Derp". They are all straight runs so we have yet to discover what all we have. We are currently putting the finishing touches on our chicken coop as we wait for our little guys to grow.
I am already amazed at how affectionate they are and I just adore their different personalities.
My husband and I live on a 500 acre farm and we also raise cattle as well as hunt and fish. He works full time and I work part time as a dog groomer. We already have a bit of a zoo with 3 dogs and 2 cats, but we just adore animals, so it's no surprise I am already adoring our chicks and turkeys.
I've been reading countless tips on the forum already just by googling questions and figured it was about time I joined
