What happen to this hen

The area under my hen’s vent has become red and swollen. It feels soft. Her comb is also very red today. Any idea what might have happened to her? What should we do to help her? She is about 5 to 6 years old.

The area under my hen’s vent has become red and swollen. It feels soft. Her comb is also very red today. Any idea what might have happened to her? What should we do to help her? She is about 5 to 6 years old.

How is she acting?

I'd give her a little clean up, see that she's drinking and eating.

If she's not laid an egg and should have, I'd give her Extra Calcium for a few days to see if she lays an egg or expels some material. I'd give her 300mg Calcium Citrate +D3 once daily. Just open the beak, pop in the tablet and let her swallow.

The bare area, she may have been plucked by the others, but do look for any lice/mites.
