Hi, I am a 1st time chicken owner as of February of 2025. We live in a rural unincorporated area in the Utah mountains. Our current population, 58 people. I currently have 10 in total; 6 RIR, 2 black sexlinks, and 2 golden sexlinks all are layers and were 18-24 months old when I got them. May of 2026, I will be adding 10 baby chicks (layers 🤞🏼) 3 black star, 2 cuckoo marans, 2 Dominique’s and 3 whiting true blues. My 1st group of chickens have their own coop and run that house up to 15 as will the new chickens we are adding. My chickens do free range but I have to watch them closer in the months of January-February due to Eagles.

In addition to my chickens we are the proud parents of 2 dachsador male siblings (Labrador and dachshund mix) dogs. They both get along well with our chickens.

Hi! Welcome to BYC! Seems like you have a good mix of chickens there. Hope you find BYC helpful and fun. Are you planning on keeping your new batch of chicks in a separate coop and run forever, or just until there older?

Hello. I must admit I have been a BYC lurker since getting my chickens and find the sight very positive and resourceful 💛. The baby chicks will be kept in doors until about 8 weeks old. Then be moved to a coop near the big girl coop to get them use to one another before integrating them into the main coop.
