New Chicken owner of Barnvelder needs help! I spent 30 minutes trying to get the right pictures but my chicks move in groups and do not hold still!

What does low quality mean exactly? Do you think they are Wyandottes though? Are they perhaps sick? They seem fine.

low quality does not mean they are sick, just not great breeding and usually just hatchery quality.

Well if they are all females and they are not show quality that is fine with us. We wouldn't know where to show them anyway. Or how to show them for that matter. Will they produce the same amount of eggs? Do they look healthy to you?

That generally means they're not bred to the Standard of Perfection. Unless you plan to breed or show them, it's just fine. Their eggs taste the same as "high quality" birds'.

yes, they look very healthy IMO. and yes, they should lay the same amount of eggs

Will they produce the same amount of eggs?

They will lay the same, if not a lot more eggs than birds bred the to the standard. This is becuase looks are usually prioritized over egg production in show quaility stock.

My future son in law gave me a box with 2 day old chicks in it and some bedding material. (He brought them home to live in his apartment and my daughter said absolutely not). This has been a very steep learning curve for me. I have the basics taken care if such as a coop, bedding and food but now I read about diseases and preventative vaccines. I change the bedding every 3 days at least and i wash it thoroughly every week or so. I have an Omlet Coop so it makes it easy to clean. So I guess I need to read up on prevention? Where do I start?
