My name is Jeannie and I am a first time chicken owner. I have 3 Black Australorps that are about 25 weeks old and have been laying for a while now. I have just added two Rhode Island Red that are about 6 weeks old. My big girls have come down with a cough and I could use some guidance! So glad to have a place to go and learn more about my girls!

Greetings from Kansas, Jeannie, and

! Happy you joined our community! You might post over in the "Emergencies/Diseases/Injuries & Cures" Forum for more precise information. Best of luck to you and I hope you get your girls feeling better real soon!

Thank you for your nice welcome :) I did post over on the forums for emergencies,illness.... I hope to get some advice real soon. Thank you!

Did you quarantine the new birds?
When you get new birds you must quarentine for a week to 2 weeks to see any signs of illness. Are there any other symptoms? are they eating drinking ok? is poo normal? Any bird seem lathargic or extra sleepy not wanting to run and scratch?

Hello and welcome to BYC

Good luck with your hens!

Howdy Jeannie, I hope you get your answer really soon about the cough issue. Everyone in the Emergencies board section usually answer questions fast and are very knowledgeable! Make sure you quarantine the sick birds in question from the rest of your flock in the mean time. I'm sure it will come up you will need some type of antibiotic for the sick birds and probably the entire flock. Wishing you the best of luck!
