New chicken owner!

I like to use the Edenpure infrared heaters in my coop. They are safer, IMO. I set the thermostat on the heater to 38 degrees and only on nights that it is going to be extreme (which seems to be the last 2 weeks straight)

We would probably be about the best chicken for cold weather

But we only produce about 200 egg's a year but lay all year long

Thanks everyone for the great advice! Very much appreciated. I was wondering people's thoughts on the deep litter method? Currently I am using this method but think I may have to add more grass/ straw to the mix because it is smelly and had read that it shouldn't be smelly but rather an earthy aroma. Thoughts? Thanks again for all your knowledge !
