So, I had two cochin hens a little over a week ago. One was broody, or so I thought. Then, we found her dead in her nest box. While I figured out what to do, too much time elapsed for my to get her in for a necropsy. We are guessing she was egg-bound.

Then I got a 5 month old Wyandotte hen from someone in town and brought her home. She's currently living in my chick playpen in the house. While explaining to a non-chicken person about why she was in the house, it suddenly occurred to me that maybe the eggs she's laying should not be eaten while she's in quarantine. And THEN I wondered if my remaining hen outside maybe should be watched as well. So maybe I also should not be eating HER eggs.

This would leave me with no eggs, though. So, what should I do?

I have never heard of anything - other than medicine - that would render eggs inedible. I am interested in how others might answer this question...

I would eat the eggs. I just wouldn't hatch them or take her out of quarantine until sufficient time has passed.

Eat the eggs but don't poop in the chicken run!
