Hi there. I have found some chicken friends for my single six month old chicken. A mother and son are giving up 15 hens and one rooster. I was thinking of taking the rooster and five hens. They are four to six months old and already laying. Is that a good idea? I think it will give my chikkie some company and protection. The coup is there and I live on fifteen acres. Just wondering if it will cause any problems with my existing chicken.

Thanks,

Can they be separated but still able to see eachother?... When we integrated new chickens we quarantined the new ones for a couple of days then let them meet through the chicken wire then we put them together.

Make sure you quarantine for illness as well. They could appear fine and be harboring many illnesses. Quarantine for at least 6 weeks before puting them together.
