New Chicken Saddles for Skye and Smoky (PICS)

Mine never like the cross your heart types at all. And Gypsy is so lean and narrow, none of them came close to fitting her, so I have one cut out and ready for DH to sew and put the elastic on. Mine don't have snaps, the elastic is just sewn on.

Here is Gypsy's completed saddle. So far, so good, but if there is any issue with it, it will be that the tongue that goes between her shoulder blades could be a bit shorter, though I did shorten it from the size of the others.

I am glad this thread is here. I am going to need a few saddles for some of my roosters favorite girls. My favorite girl is his favorite too, and he is driving her nuts. My poor little girl. I need to protect her. Is a more stiff and thick fabric better, or would a single layer of a suede type fabric be enough? Thanks for all your insight on this matter, 'cause I am totally new to it!!

I have a pattern that I will gladly email to anybody that wants it. Just PM me with your email address and i'll send it. You may have to make adjustments to fit your particular hen but this one fits mine and they are Wydonettes, BR, BO and red sexlinks. I have a really huge hen but she never needed one. I used the big snaps becaue I had a couple that could unsnap the small ones. Or you can just omit the snaps and just sew the elastic where the snap would go. I like the snaps becaue it is easier for me to get them back off for washing. They get really dirty or muddy if you get alot of rain.

All but one of my girls didn't mind wearing them. The one ws the smart one that figured out out the snaps worked. But I had one that got really mad when I took hers off. We removed the roos to their own bachelor runs so they no longer needed them.

I would be very happy to be able to share the pattern with anybody that wants it. Free of charge of course.

My hen has a terrible hole in her back. I have her isolated in a large dog igloo because the others were pecking it. I am thinking a saddle might be just the ticket that would allow her to return to the flock and some semblance of chicken life. Can you email me the pattern please? Thanks so much

Have any of you used polarfleece or even just fleece as in old sweatshirt material for saddles? I made about 10 of these for my hens, and I just cut slits for the wings and placed them over them past the notch. I will try to get pictures when hubby gets back home with my camera.
