(1) We got our first flock last summer. Purchased 20 hens from McMurray's... ended up with 20 hens!! (well.. 19... but due to accident, not a sneaky dude)
(2) A wild pack of family dogs came running through the yard one day; they ate 2 hens but the rest ran to the safety of their coop. Another went missing with no further clues. Currently working a rooster in! That brings the count to 17)
(3) The girls are Australorps & Barred Rocks. Trying to breed them with a Speckled Sussex now.
(4) I would have to say my favorite part of having backyard chickens is ... Chicken TV! I never knew they'd be so entertaining!! I also try to live a zero waste lifestyle & they are huge components in turning "trash" into compost quickly!
(5) My other hobbies include : Gardening, Arts, Cooking & learning new crafts
(6) Outside of the flock, we have a small family. Just my partner & I, & our 2 chicken loving dogs.
(7) I just learned about BYC by searching out techniques of introducing a rooster to an established flock of hens.
