If not already suggested, spend some time looking at coop designs. I suggest you avoid the many pre-fab coops on the market. They are almost all poorly designed, and will not meet your needs or the needs of your chickens. ALL prefabs are falsely advertised regarding how many birds they will comfortably hold. The minimum standard is 4 s.f. in coop, and 10 s.f. in run per bird with 1 s.f. of ventilation in the coop per bird. Minimum run recommendation is 10 s.f./bird
Other things to look at:
breed selection: check Henderson's chicken breed's chart. After you pick out a few options, then you can research each of those breeds.
fermented feed.
deep litter in coop and run.
If you garden, your flock are going to be your best gardening allies, but you won't want to share your garden with them while it's growing YOUR food. Good fences make happy chicken owners!
