I've been wanting chickens for a long time and I'm finally picking up a couple of 6 month old girls tomorrow. For humane eggs, as well as to be pets.

I'm kinda scared now that the day is finally here!

I'm planning on bringing them home in big cat carriers.... that's ok, right?

I'm sure I'll have a lot of questions.

It should be okay. I transported a single chick in February in similar kind of box over a 40 minute drive from a distant feed store. I kept the heat on in the car and the chick was fine, just a little noisy.

Big cat carriers should work... disinfect them first.

Congratulations, you won't regret it.

You'll want more chickens soon!

should be just fine as long as not in back of ;pickup truck

It's a 3 hour drive

But no, not in a pick-up, just in the backseat of my car. They're big girls though, so heat shouldn't be an issue.

Are there illnesses that cats and chickens share? (re: the disinfection)

You never know where those cats have been or where they've been digging. I wouldn't chance it.

Well, ok, I'll wash out the carriers well.

But just so you know I'm going to kiss those chickens with the same mouth I kiss my cats on the lips with, so....
