Hi,
We are new to backyard chickens and all is going well except for the fact that one of our girls has a wing problem. She is now about 20 weeks old, just about to start laying. About 4 weeks ago her right wing was hanging and she was very quiet, seemed unwell. We read about a possible broken/dislocated wing here and were all set to tape it. We held her for a while and placed her in a box. After getting our supplies together, we took her out and had one last look and she was fine. She has been fine until a few days ago when her wing started hanging again. There is no sign of trauma and after holding her it seems to hang correctly. It also hangs correctly at times during the day. She is not her spunky self but she moves around, eats, interacts with others and seems okay. When her wing hangs, she often flaps it a lot almost as it trying to fix it.
Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated. Hate to take her to the vet here in SF as it will likely be a fortune.
Thanks,
jt

Hi :welcome

Glad you could join the flock! Sorry to hear you have a girl with a poorly wing. From how you have described the wing it does sound like it could be coming out of place. Would you be able to get some pics of the said wing? If you can that would be great and you can post in the emergencies injuries and cures section of the forum. Here is the link ~ https://www.backyardchickens.com/f/10/emergencies-diseases-injuries-and-cures

A pic and as much detail as possible would be great for the experts over there to be able to help you best.

Wishing you the very best of luck with her, I'm sure members in the injuries section will be able to help you.

x2 on posting photo and information on the emergencies/diseases forum.

I wish you and your girl all the best. It's nice to have you join us!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! Hope your hen is OK.

Hope the ER folks will be able to tell you what to do with the wing. I've heard of people taping a wing but, I think that is when it first appears. I don't know if treatment is successful later on.
