2 Black Australorps named for the first black actor to win an Oscar: Hattie (McDaniel from Gone With the Wind -- Mammy) and the latest black actress to win an Oscar: Viola (Davis).
Then there's Lucille (Ball), a Rhode Island Red. They're already laying!
Got them yesterday from a sweet young lady who works at
Tractor Supply. We got the coop there too. We went in to look at the baby chicks but they were all gone
, then she started showing us some she had for sale. Meant to be!
We already have improvements to the coop in mind:
Raise it up on a cinderblock frame for deep litter (don't think wood is gonna last long in contact with earth).
Move food and water outside (with guttering or pvc pipe) to free up run space.
Make 2 more cinderblock frames and rotate run space rather than clean out. Then plant my garden.
Get rid of pullout poop drawer somehow so poop falls to litter.
We'd appreciate any advice y'all might have.
