Hello! i was just wondering what some of your favorite types of birds are, because i would like to have a nice and friendly flock this year. I am also looking for birds that have good egg-laying skills too! thanks! -Keziah

Buff Orpingtons are big and friendly, and lay pretty well if you get the production type rather than the show type. Sussex, barred rocks, partridge rocks, Australorps and black sex links are other good choices that meet your criteria.

I especially like the Speckled Sussex and Welsummers. One of the friendliest chicken we've ever had was a RIR, which some people do not think are the nicest...just goes to show, individual chickens don't always follow predicted breed generalities.

Why not have a mixed flock? Then you don't have to choose

Go with what you like best. Just remember that larger, dual purpose breeds tend to be friendlier than smaller layer breeds like Leghorns.

will do! thanks so much! i have a leghorn curently, and she is not the friendliest! But i also have some buffs and they are super nice

Brahmas and buff Orpingtons
I breed partridge,blue buff columbian and lemon Pyle brahmas.
they follow me everywhere.
An extremely friendly and beautiful breed.
I also have 2 buff Orpingtons, they’re also very friendly.
