New Chickens

This is the wing at a few weeks old

Any breed ideas?

Dose anyone know what breed this might be? There are a few black speckles on the back, five toes, feathered legs, and grey yellow scales. I think it's a bantam and it's recognized by the APA.
Dark skin, feathered feet, 5th toe, recognized by APA: probably a Silkie.

White with a few black speckles, maybe Paint? (I have no idea if that color is recognized by the APA.)

I was suspecting Silkies. Darn.
Paint is not recognized but Splash is.

So the possible Silkies have no fluffiness whatsoever. Is there anything else they could be?

They all have some feathers on their legs but it's such poor quality you can't really see it.

I can't think of any other breed that would have those traits.
Maybe Silkie-mixes? If some kinds of non-Silkie rooster got into a pen with Silkie hens, you could get chicks like that.

You said they should be an APA recognized breed. Have you gone through the list here?

Most of those breeds can be ruled out pretty quickly. For example, having feathered feet & 5th toe rules out all colors of Ameraucana, American Game, Ancona, and quite a few more. The 5th toe and skin color rule out Brahma and Cochin.

If I get enough time later today, I will select type "bantam" and go through them one by one. There are some I'll have to look up to double-check traits, so it may take me a bit. (But if you've already done that, then I won't bother.)

There are 5 breeds with five toes.
Silkies
Sultans
Faverolles
Houdans
Dorkings
Only the first three have feathered feet and Sultans have a V comb.
I wasn't sure if they might be White Faverolles, but it's impossible to find pictures of their chicks online.
They might just be bad Splash Silkies and I might just be hoping they are anything but.

I was wondering about that.

It should not be possible to get normal feathering from two parents with Silkie feathering.
But I really can't tell if that chick has poor-quality silkie feathers, or normal feathers. Silkies really aren't my thing, so I haven't paid attention to what the early feathers look like, and how/when to recognize whether a chick has silkie feathering or not.

I can find a few photos of adults, and the comb type (single) should be the same for chicks and adults, in all colors. The skin color also looks wrong (your chick's is too dark, especially on the face.)

So I'm pretty sure you do not have Faverolles.

There are some photos here of Faverolles, including colors we don't seem to have in the US-- fun to look at, but not what your chick is.

I think your chick is either a poor quality silkie, or from an accidental cross, if the seller was honest about the kinds of eggs you got.

The chicks were from a project through 4-H and all the breeds should be in the APA book.
They're probably just crummy SIlkies.
Totally random but this video shows the growth of a Silkie and the way they made it is pretty cool.
