Ok i just got my new chickens yesterday and they refuse to leave to coop. They will not go into the run unless i make then go out. Is this normal behaviour for new chickens.

Let them get used to the coop first for a few days. Keep the coop closed. In two or three days leave the pop door open. If it's not raining or too hot out, they'll venture forth.

Yes this is normal behavior. This is all new to them too. They will adjust.

It's actually not a bad thing at first. It helps them clue into the fact that the coop is where they sleep. If they haven't come out in a week, gently push them into the run and keep them there with treats. It'll be scary for them but necessary.

Mine peak out, look around, then run back in. A coupe days go by, they're out on the ramp. A week goes by, they're outside the door by a few feet scratching around. Then finally by a couple weeks, they're in and out like a hermit crab!!!

It's totally new surroundings for them. They will come out over time just let them do it at their own pace. Leave the door open and they will eventually go out.

I changed the litter in my girls' run the other day (they were down to bear earth and I wanted to give them something to scrat around in) and they wouldn't go in! They're grown hens and have been in that run for many months, yet it still took them hours to pluck up the courage to venture in, simply because the ground was a different colour!

(I suppose we're lucky here in the UK that it doesn't snow often, because I can kinda see that'll freak them out totally as well, once the ground turns white.)

Chickens are complete and utter chickens when it comes to anything unfamiliar! Sweet though

Just give them a little time...
