I am a first-time chicken owner. Have always loved animals. Recently moved back to the city, but had promised my daughter we would have chickens. She is an animal lover like her momma. So, we got a coop and 3 Buff Orpingtons, which we are hoping are all pullets. I am a high school journalism teacher, my husband works at a plastics factory, and we have a 26 year old son, 16 year old son, and a 14 year old daughter. In searching for information about our chicks, I came across this site. I can use all the help and information I can get.

Thank you so much!

Nice to meet you Heather, Welcome to Backyard chickens. Buff Orpingtons are a fine breed - generally very docile and often make great broody mothers. By that I mean they like to sit on eggs and hatch them. Of course you would need a rooster to have fertile eggs, or you could buy some.

Hello Heather! My children and I are animal lovers as well. We have been involved in a lot of bird rescue and rehab lately. BYC has information on all things birds, not just chickens. It really is an amazing wealth of information and I have found an answer to every question I have had so far. I love Buff Orpingtons. I hope to have a few someday.

Welcome aboard! :frow
We are glad you joined our flock.

Hello, :welcome
Buff Orpingtons are absolutely awesome breeds! I'm glad you discovered this site, you can help many people here, or people here can help you! Many helped me and I am very grateful for this site. I thought I knew many things about chickens (turns out I didn't) but now I do, especially with the help of the other chicken moms!
Good luck!
