Roosters can be nasty but mine has a certain crow if something is wrong. I would get one.maybe the aggression was fear of whatever got a hold of others. That's sad.. I got attached to mine and would be not happy if that happened.. put traps up. You don't know what got them

Thank you kindly for the warm welcome! I was reading another thread about aggressive chickens, and I have to agree with you - they need to go. While I think it would be fun to have some chicks, it may not be worth the hassle. I don't know where you all find nice roos! We had 3 and they were all aggressive. Seems like their inherent nature.

Some friends of ours who own a farm and have been raising chickens for a while suggested to us that we "discipline" the chickens if they charge or spur, and now reading here that it only makes them MORE aggressive is not so good. Oops.

I have to many roosters but only aggression is not enough hens.brownie comesvwjrn you call, but lovebug getting rehomed for the fact of hens.I got more but he mounts one all the time and she needs a break. Bantam has been through hell and now eye injury.I'm thinking from new hens. The others raised together and no injuries but others integrated over several months but he's a small rooster. Tried getting hen for him but not what I was told it was. And got a silkie and another Rhode island red.
When would you put one with eye injury in coop in basement so not injured again? Until eye is cleared up.

I have a selectively aggressive roo...Bach loves his mama but he hates my husband! Bach will sit on my lap and eat out of my hand, let me pick him up and move him where he needs to go, will let me pet him but all bets are off with my poor husband. Steve carries a broom around when he is messing with the chickens and Bach respects that broom. Poor Steve has never done a thing to Bach but they are enemies. We live out in the sticks with coyotes, possums, hawks, etc. in abundance and Bach does a great job of sounding the alarm and protecting his ladies. I hope he and hubs can resolve their differences b/c we need that protection. There has not been any blood drawn...mostly posturing and blowing out of feathers....

I'm sorry you are (or were) having issues with aggressive roo and hens. That is something I'm afraid of. I have small children too and I want them to enjoy interacting with the flock. Good luck with getting them sorted out. And if they don't improve, at least they'll be delicious haha.

Hello everyone! I am a new backyard chicken owner - I have 1 roo, 3 hens, 4 silkies, and 2 peking ducks that we bought as babies in March. They are all grown up now and quite fun! We started with 3 roos, as we didn't know the sexes at chickdom, and we've narrowed down to the one. He is quite aggressive, as are some of the hens...so we may have some chicken stew here shortly. I hate to do it, but we have small children and the chickens scare them. To be honest, when two of them charge me from across the yard, they scare me too! Naughty chickens.

Anyway, nice to be here and read up on all the chicken literature! Despite the aggression, we are really enjoying being chicken owners. Attaching a pic of our coop and run. All home-built by my husband!

Not sure if duck died but moving in shell taking up the shell. Alot of it but don't see any movement. Thought it would have hatched humidity in range and I don't know if I should open it. No smell but should have hatched this week and not seeing movement and others very active I'm stressed.. I can give it a few more days but if it can't get out I don't want that to have killed it.
