Hello! My mother and I decided to order some chicks from cackle hatchery , when we purchased we thought we were getting day old chicks but the polish breeds we got are massive and it's only been 2 and a half weeks about two times bigger than the silkies we got they already have most of their feathers especially the wings (is this normal?)
We have 24 chickens in total ( bit nervous that it may be more than we can handle but I am hoping that our previous experience raising exotic parrots will give us some advantage !

So my main questions
1. Is it possible our polish were older than day old chicks and that's why they are so big already

2. One of our silkies has a prolapsed rectum (I know there's another term but I can spell rectum lol) I continually remove the poop that gets stuck and put the prolapse back in, but it's a daily occurrence and he/she almost died but now eats and drinks normally again since I have been manually helping her/him poop and he/she seems to be ok except when struggling to poo ( is this ok , will he/she survive ? )

3. was it a mistake to get multiple colors of the polish ? We have five white crested black polish , five white polish and four golden laced polish ( and I do not yet know about how many roosters ) we have two different silkie breeds blue and buff ( again not sure on roosters ) but how do we deal if we didn't get roosters? Or only one rooster in the polish etc ... What is the standard ? Will chickens lay without a rooster ?

By the way, not saying that you will do anything bad, but no fowl play

Try posting this under something else. This is for meeting and greeting. If you looks somewhere else, you could get more educated guesses.

Please post in detail about your silkie at "emergencies, diseases, injuries , cures thread.
More experienced people monitor that site. I hope they can suggest proper treatment for her.

It sounds like your polish are either older or perhaps large fowl polish rather than bantams. In USA silkies are just available as bantams - so there could be quite a size difference.
Please update on the little silkie - we really are about her outcome.

Yes, you need to post this in our emergency section to treat the prolapse. But you can start by getting her all washed up. Try to push the organs back in and apply preparation H to her butt and the entire area. Do this every day until the swelling has gone down. Apply the Prep H a couple times a day. Keep her in an area of limited low light. 8 hours of daylight only. 16 hours of darkness. This will help to stop her from laying while she heals. And sometimes this sends them into a molt too, which will stop the laying as well. Keep her warm and in a small cage so she doesn't do too much and heals.

I hope she makes a full recovery.
