(forgive me for my newbie post, I hope I am in the right forum)

I got the call from the post office at 7:30 this morning while I was on my way to work. I said, "Okay!" I called my teenaged son to wake him up and send him to go get them. He arrived at the post office before they opened, knocked on the door, and was directed to the "noisy corner" to pick up his package.

This was our order:
1 black cochin rooster
1 black cochin hen
4 auracana hens
1 egyptian fatoumis hen
2 black kraienkoppe hens

We received 25 chicks! The rest were white leghorn roosters. I'm sure they will be great at Thanksgiving dinner. :)

The chicks came from Ideal Poultry, and all survived the trip.

Me too. We have been picking up each of them and inspecting them and cuddling them. I hope this makes a happy feathered family. :)

Yep! They seemed so happy when I got home and found them all peeping around happily in the recycling bin under a two heat lamps. :)

So far, I have a lot of volunteers in the neighborhood to take the peanuts off my hands, but I think they only want to play with the chicks and will return them in several weeks.

I named the first Leghorn as "T-Day".

Because he will feed us on Thanksgiving.

LMAO!! What a great pic!!

You need a bigger brooder! Heat lamp at one end so they can get away if it's too hot.

You are absolutely right! I expected 9 chicks any got 25!!! Hahahaha...

I sent the kids out hunting on Craigslist, and they found a set of shelves that we are going to use as the new brooder. Now I just need to find a screen to go over the top. :0)

As for that little chick flying the purple UFO... once he grows a little bigger, he won't be able to get in there.

Good!

Was that pic staged or did it crawl in there by itself? It's hilarious!

Sadly, three of the ameracauna chicks died in their sleep last night.

I could tell yesterday that they hadn't been doing well - very lethargic and legs splayed out when they lay down.

:(

Ideal Poultry has been very helpful and polite so far. I'm very happy with them. So I will order replacements.

I'm so sorry.

At least they're not suffering through whatever they had anymore.
