New chicks 'belly button'?

From Wiki:
"In the egg there is a cord that attaches the developing embryo to the yolk sac. When the bird hatches, there is a residual scar where the cord used to be. While the bird is a nestling, you can still see what would be the avian equivalent of a belly button. However, as the bird develops, that area becomes more compact and in an adult bird there is virtually nothing to be seen of what once was the scar. So technically baby birds have belly buttons, but unlike the belly buttons of humans, these go away as they grow up. "

I, too, have seen the thread-like cord on all my hatchlings. Sometimes there's a tiny bit of yolk attached to the end. They usually dry up pretty quickly.

Dunno about the 'belly button' BUT as for the chick, make it drink! Maybe (this works with mice and kittens, I'm not sure about chicks) rub some karo syrup inside it's mouth.
I've had lots of mice act this way. I keep them extra warm and force-feed them, they get better in a day or so.

When I went into the bedroom I thought I lost all my chicks last night! They were all plopped over. As I was nearing freaking out, they all started popping up and peeping! PHEW! The little wobbly one, not that one though, it just stayed there plopped over. I picked it up to see if it was dead, and sure enough the little thing opened it's eyes.

It won't go to the waterer to drink, but when I give it an eye dropper full of water it drinks from it like a fiend. It'll peck the end of the dropper until I put more water into it. I got about 3 large droppers of water in it last night and 1 more this morning. After it drinks, it gets more energy. It still won't open it's eyes very often though, like it's poor face is swollen. I'm also fairly certain it's not eating. What other recommendations do you guys have, other than cider and sugar water, to help this little one survive? I don't have any eggs to give it, or yogurt, any other 'super foods' to try to give it a jump start?

I can't seem to get my picture to attach(?)

Got it! Here's my wobbly chick

I lost that little one this evening then we went to get dinner and when I got back, another one is wobbling, and very lethargic

. What am I doing wrong!?! I got an egg and scrambled it, but they don't seem to want to have anything to do with it. I've given the new wobbly one sugar water and the rest have a splash of apple cider vinegar in their water. When I left for dinner an hour ago, all 7 were running around, drinking and being happy little chicks

Poor little guy.

I have a chick that almost looks like it was stitched up right under the vent. I got the chicks from the feed store, and have a hard time imagining anyone would go to the trouble. I guess we will take a picture, but I will post it as a link so people have a choice about whether to see it. I thought it was pasting at first, but I've seen it do the business a few times and it's not that.

Some of my chicks, when I check for pasting, have a nub in that area. I hope I'm checking the right thing.

This may be a dumb question but have you dipped the beeks into the waterer. I made sure to dip all of my chicks hatched and bought into the waterer twice. Just to make sure they know its there. Just a thought. Wish I had more to offer.

Good Luck and God Bless!
