Okay, that was confusing. I got an Surprise order from Cackle, and the box was very beat up on arrival. I have lost five chicks, and number six is in my hand, not doing so hot. Everyone else is really perky. Cackle got a hold of me and recommended sulmet or amprolium, given the rough trip they had. I couldn't find sulmet, but I found Corid Amprolium, for cows. Their thinking was that with the stress, making sure they didn't get coccidiosis was important.

Anyone know the dose age for chicks? And can I mix in electrolytes/probiotic with it? Anything else I should do?

1/2 teaspoon per gallon of water for the powdered kind or 2 teaspoons per gallon of water for the liquid kind. Don't put anything else in their water . No ACV, no electrolytes. Give them the Corid for 5 days making a fresh batch every 24 hours. After 5 days, give them electrolytes with vitamins. I hope this works out for you. Good luck with your new babies!

Do you think it would be more important to get them electrolytes/probiotics/etc.... than the amprolium right now? No signs of coccidiosis that I can see. I've lost chicks to that before when I had banties. My babies are in my garage, in a big metal watering bin. They are not on the ground, but on shavings.

I agree with flockmomma,i would give them something like Sav-A-Chick,shipping is very hard on chicks. If you just received chicks,it is doubtful that they have Coccidiosis. Corid(Amprolium) is NOT used for stress,it is only used for treating Cocci, have no idea why the person at Cackle would tell you this,as they are completely wrong. Sounds like it was a very stressful shipping for them, electrolytes and vitamins would be more appropriate.

You must have gotten someone new at cackle or something because every time we have gotten chicks from them say to make sure that you give them sugar water ant to treat them for with droid unless they show signs. I would give them the vitamins unless you start seeing signs they are sick. Just my opinion and what I would do.

They already got vitamins and probiotics started earlier today. Their first feed last night consisted of several crushed, hardboiled eggs. They went crazy for that. I gave them more this morning with their feed. I will do that again tonight.

Well, gotta go take care of the babies. I have baby goats to bottle feed and eggs to peel for baby chicks.
