Hello all!

After a few weeks of our broody hen laying on a nest in our hay barn (I didn't want to move her, as I didn't want to stress her out) she has successfully hatched 6 little chicks! When we saw this, we moved her and her chicks to a safe little enclosure (pet carrier) as there are a few more eggs that haven't hatched. I put in some food and water for them. I went and purchased a large wardrobe box from a moving supplies store, so that's ready to go as a makeshift brooder.

I'm wondering when to move her and the chicks inside the brooder once they've hatched? Some of the chicks hatched last night (thursday pm). Thanks so much! Sooo happy....:wee:jumpy:jumpy:jumpy:wee

Awesome!! Props to you. I just bought some buff orpingtons to do some brooding for me. Yeah i would move them after they hatch. And at night. When everyone is groggy and drowsy and sleepy.

Pictures coming very, very soon! A few of them were still hatching this morning. I have been trying to get pics of the little chicks but as soon as they see me, they crawl right back under momma....yes, thanks for the tip, will move them at night.

More pictures! 9 little chicks hatched :) And I'm also going to attempt to put together a small coop this week, so they'll have a little place to go when they get bigger and slowly get introduced to the rest of the flock. :jumpy:jumpy:jumpy
