New chicks new owner help

I got my first 6 chicks on Friday. Everything is going great, they are so stinkin cute!!! My problem at the moment is that they sure seem to be wasting a lot of food!!! they are going through a quart jar every 36 hours or so, most of it is ending up on the bottom of the brooder? Is there a way to eliminate so much waste?

I put the feeder in a plactic plant saucer to catch the spillage- and they eat from there as well.

may also want to raise the level of the feeder up an inch or two which can make it harder to bill out too much...worked very well w/ my little fluff butts
