New Chicks on Rock n Roll Ridge, Oklahoma

Thanks for the compliments me n the chicks appreciate it. LOL I am having trouble with my wheels. I added two boat trailer jacks with swivel wheels, but they are taller off the ground than the original built in wheel assemblies. I will have to alter the original ones to lower them so they are higher off the ground in the back. It is a work in progress. LOL

Having fun with the Chicks living the "Grand Life" (Grand Lake of the Cherokees) LOL

Here is an easy way to help feed your chicks and take care of that composting chore. I went down to the corner and bought a 55 gal white plastic barrel and made one in like minutes. I will have to take a picture and post it. Here is a link for those who are interested in creating a Black Soldier Fly composter for themselves and the chicks.

Enjoy! I will repost when we get the Black Soldier Flies actually in there. LOL

Hello Again from RnR Ridge! Well The hens finally gave me some eggs. I think it is Nelly one of my Barred Plymouth Rock hens. We heard a cackle a couple of days ago and then again yesterday so I checked out the nest box and lo and behold I had two small eggs. Then I found another one today. I had two for breakfast today and they were nicely formed and good color to the yolk. They tasted nice too.LOL

The large brown egg is from the store and the quarter is for comparison. The third egg today was same as the smaller two. The girls are about 16-17 weeks old now. They are all good and healthy looking after the 5 day course of Corid for the bacteria and on the medicated Purina Start and Grow. When we finish the bag I may put them on laying pellets. Any pointers on getting them on that and perhaps some scratch from the local co-op. They have gotten some scratch out on the ground and eat it, but not too happy with the larger pieces of corn. They also want to fly up and out of the chicken corral

, but respond to my shouting at them to get back in the corral. LOL

They are so much fun!! They come running to the fence when they see me for treats of chickweed or something.
