New chicks on the way!!

I just ordered 5 baby chicks..should be here around the 14th! I'm very excited and worried at the same time....like what if I am a bad chick mommy or what if the dogs eat them?? Oh so many worries!!

Don't worry, you'll be a pro in no time. Start brainstorming now for ways to keep the dogs away from them.

Trust me I have! They are german shepherds and sweet as can be...but who knows how they will react to chickens. Hoping I can slowly introduce them and they will protect my little flock from predators in the future. Does anyone know if a heat lamp is the best for chicks or would a little ceramic heater work?

Our German Shepherd could give a rats a... er, could care less about the chicks. We took him and the min pin out to see them and he just kind of looked at them and turned around and headed back to the house. The min pin on the other hand, well me and him have to have a talk.

Oh my! I think that my older GSD will react that way...he doesn't care about much anymore now that he's 10. It's the younger female I am afraid she might think it's a "toy". She is a great herder thought..maybe she can help me round them up from time to time.
