We just got new chicks on Sat. This is my first foray into chickens. I have 2 Golden Comets. (2 weeks old.) 3 Buff Orpingtons. (7 days old) and 1 Rhode Island Red (5 days old.) The Golden comets were sick first. Runny nose and labored breathing. There is no smell and the discharge is clear but gooey. One of them is much better but still has a bit of a runny nose. The second Golden Comet I will be lucky if it lives through the night. Now one of the Buff Orpintons has presented with the same symptoms. The place that we got them from wasn't the cleanest of places and I really at the time thought it wasn't a good idea. Now my kids are attached to these chickens. My son has begged for 2 years to get them. I gave in because I want the eggs. I was going tomorrow to buy some vitamin water. What else can I do? I have read that they will be carriers even though we treat them. So should we take them back to the people we got them from? My kids are gonna be devastated if we have to give them up.
I am really upset and need the best advice!
Thanks so much!

I just went to check on her and she seems to be doing better. She isn't as listless as before and was up preening herself. I am not planning on ever adding to this flock so could I still keep them?

I would take them back. I have no doubt the seller knew he had a disease in his flock. There is no excuse for selling from a flock like this. Read here:

Ditto...or cull. Then disinfect everything that they came in contact with. Consider ordering chicks from a hatchery; Meyer, Ideal, Mypetchicken, Cackle...there are many of them. Personally, I prefer to order chicks from a hatchery...never had any issues like you're having. Sorry for your troubles.

Update!
Went to the store and got them Medication for their water feeders and a vitamin for their water feeders. I separated the chicks that were sick from the others. I also disinfected the cage they were in. Hoping for the best! I really don't want to cull them!
