New chicks scare me, wish someone would have told me.

little ones are soooo funny!

it's like they are trotting across the brooder, then WAM, gotta sleep!! and down they go, mid motion!

The sprawlers are the funniest! beak down, both legs stretched out in back, wings wherever!

Such fun. Enjoy.

I had never even been close to a live chicken before when I was given my 4 chickies 10 weeks ago. They constantly freaked me out with their sleeping antics!! I rasied mine in the house and we used to sleep watching tv together (until it was time to go outside to live in the coop!) and my roo Oreo would fall asleep at the blink of an eye! i would be holding him and petting him and his lil head would bobble and he would just flop and go limp! scared me the first time he did that to me! I thought i had killed him! I screamed, Oreo didnt move and hubby came running! Oreo was just playing dead and blearily opened his eyes when i handed him to my hubby! Hubby thinks im wierd now! hahaha
Hershey, my other roo, used to sleep in the classic 'dead animal' pose, both feet in the air and on his back! not cool i tell you!
My lil girl Skittles LOVED to scare me with those seziure like dust baths too! those babies are funny though!

I posted this one elsewhere, but I had to post on this thread too!

Pretending To Be Dead...

OMG That one DOES look dead. I'd be reaching in to pull out the dead bird and cussing under my breath (while wanting to cry...)

I've been raising chickens for many years and it still takes my breath away when they do that.

Even today, we have a couple of hundred youngsters free ranging, DH and I drove into the yard and I said OH...we lost one of the chickens!!!
He went to pick it up and it took off! He said it was just playing dead.

I have one of these scares regular with all these pranksters we have.

My kids say my BR's are vampires they run out of the coop which is shaded and as soon as they reach sun light they literally throw them self on the ground as if they passed out from sun touching them one leg stretched out and one wing over the leg. They have been doing this since they was a few weeks old.
