I went out to take pics this morning, which I will post as soon as I get a cable. Momma was asleep, so I snuck in hoping to pick her up asleep. Bo luck. But I did managed to pick her up with one hand, tuck her under and arm and take a pic of just the babies-all 11 of them! 11 out of 12 eggs. I put her down, and she immediately went back to the nest, shooting me the evil eyes.

My husband says that I'm going to make her abandon the chicks. MY response is that this is the momma who sat on our fake egg for three months after a snake ate the eggs she laid in the barn. I dont think my occasional harrassment is going to me her leave the babies.

I've got the food and water outside. Do I need to move it inside? I figured outside was better cuase that's where it has alwasy been. No sense in getting the chicks used to "drive thru" service.

Thanks!

Ok, so I got home late tonite, and wanted to go check on mom and babies. As I approached the coop, I heard weak peeping. I quickly got into the coop, and saw momma was not on the basket, she had moved down into the shavings. The peeping was coming from the basket! I found one dead chick, two unhatched eggs, and one chick probably born today that had fallen out and under the basket.

I've got him insdie, under a heat lamp with water and food. Can I just slip him into the bunch tomorrow if he makes it thru the night? He has a strong peep, but its obvious he's only a few hours old.

I woke momma, and she shifted, and I heard a chorus of frantic peeping, so at least most of them made it. It looked like the dead chick got his neck broken by one of the eggs.

Please advise!
