New chicks today! Updates while they grow up

Congrats on your chicks! šŸ˜If you haven't already, make sure they know where the food and water is. In the morning dip their beaks in the water and peck the crumble with your finger to show them. You may already know all this, but just being a chicken mama.šŸ˜Š
Thank you for the advice! They found it themselves when I put them in! Thereā€™s chick food all over the brooder now šŸ˜‚ Messy little eaters!

Ok so I lied. I laid on the floor just watching them sleep & a bunch started peeping and cane out to say hi! They must be toasty warm if they arenā€™t huddled in the middle!

Some new pics! Will get 15 individual once my son gets up and helps me change out the pads & paper towels. I couldnā€™t get them all, and had one escape artist! šŸ˜‚

Anyone know when itā€™s ok to bring them outside for 15-20 minutes per day? They seem very content and only occasionally go under the heat lamp when the temp drops after dinner.

Here is a picture of their first field trip outside! By the end of 20 minutes, a few dust bathed a spot and started dozing off, so we took them back in to rest!

A few candid shots:
They are all 4-6 days old now. I moved them in to the watermelon bin today to avoid the massive poop buildup in the small space lol. I was changing paper towels every 2 hours!
In pic 3 a bunch of them were fascinated and busy pecking a spot on the cardboard.
In the second to last pic you can see some of them getting baby tail feathers! ā¤ļø

Well poor little Basil had a horrible case of pasty butt today, but after about 15 minutes of working on her, she is clear and dry! About an hour later, Bernadette had a second bout of pasty butt which I think was my fault..I donā€™t think I cleared her the first time. The cleaning gets easier each time. Got everything off I think. So crazy! I think our ratio is pretty good, only 2 out of 15. My poor neighbor had 1 of her 4 with it...almost called her for help, but took a deep breath and focused. I felt terrible as little Basil was shaking the whole time but she seems so happy now! More updates tomorrow!
