Got my new chicks today. Even though the Chix tractor will not be ready for a couple of more days. Got them early because next week is the last week our feed store will have chicks and could not guarantee that they would have the breeds I want.
I have them in a large cardboard box in the shed. At about 91 degrees, they seem to be fine, not huddled together like they're cold, and not sitting at the edge of the box like they are too warm,,,,seem happy. Eating and drinking....ok.
Got 2- Black Australorp, 2- Ameraucana, 2- RIR.
The the RIR's, one is very red, the other looks a little the Ameraucana. One of the Ameraucana's is very big for his age,,,,I call him Bubba.
Going to try to finish the tractor asap as it will be much more secure then the shed. The only varmit I've seen in the shed is mice and none so far this year.
My dogs are very interested in the birds, but they will not have access to them, they would think they are snaks.
these are my first chickens.
