I am getting my chicks tomorrow and I have a coop with 3 bantoms in it already. I know I have to have a brooder, which I will use my dog cage. They still need heat and I was wondering if it was okay to fill hot water in 2 ltr bottles to keep them warm, because its only 4. I will keep them in the coop and its insulated.
Can I leave them in the coop in a separate cage with the other hens? I have chick starter for them and was wondering if that was okay for the chicks? Do I need to feed the meats with separate food right away? My kids love scrounging and finding insects for them and is it okay for the to be feed this in lew or different food?
I don't want to buy separate food for the meat if I can supplement because there are only 2. I am trying meat birds for the first time and seeing how that goes before I start more.
Any help will be good, never started with chicks before.
