New chicks with pasty butt

So what is the best way to clean up a pasty butt on a chick. Don't want to just pull it because it is dried on her. They are only five days old. Thanks

Have the chick sit in your hand with its butt on a warm wet paper towel to help soften it. We had to do this and I had to gentley rub it between my fingers in order to break it up. We also added a sprinkling of chick grit over their food every day when they were 4 days old and this really helped to prevent pasty butt.

Thank you will try that for sure. Gives me a reason to hold them anyway.
