So right now we have a flock of 6. 5 hens and 1 roo. One of our hens is sitting on some eggs. Not sure how many but we have plenty of room for them. My question is what do we need to do when the chicks hatch? Right now they are all still innthe same coop/run amd really no good way to separate the broody hen and chicks. With the other hens and roo be an issue?

Mine other hens and rooster never are. I let my hens hatch and raise the chicks with the flock and I don't have issues. However when you deal with living animals anything can happen. You don't get guarantees as far as behavior. Some people do have issues. I believe that the more room you have the less likely it is that you will have issues.

Good luck!

The best way I’ve found out to deal with baby chicks and the mom is to separate them from the flock once they hatch. If you don’t it could be devastating to you and the mom. I once had a hen who hatched chicks and the other hens killed every single one of them because my chickens are just mean I guess. It really depends on where she sits on the pecking order if she’s too hen then she probably shouldn’t have any problems unless the rooster is a turd to her or the chicks.
