(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I am brand new. I got my chicks yesterday.

(2) How many chickens do you have right now?

I have four, and I am stealthily considering increasing that number to six while my spouse is not paying attention :p:p

(3) What breeds do you have?

Easter Egger, Olive Egger, Rhode Island Red, and Cuckoo Maran

(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens?

I am looking forward to fresh eggs, and having company in the back yard while I am gardening. They will be in a run.

(5) What are some of your other hobbies?

I am an avid knitter and spinner. If my yard was a lot bigger, I would probably also have backyard sheep ;)

(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share.

We are a family of 6 humans, kids are 5-16 and we are homeschoolers. I have decided that this term, we will be learning about chickens. We have 4 cats, an angora rabbit, and two newts.

(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?

I have been reading articles off and on for about 6 years as I was contemplating getting hens. I kept waiting for us to have a larger space, and this year with the housing market being what it is, and us not getting any closer to getting more property, I decided that I would sacrifice a bit of my garden space for hens and get a plot at the community garden.

Stealth purchases are the best!

I like the way you think!

BTW, there are miniature sheep breeds out there. I used to keep my miniature goats in the backyard when I lived in town.

Sounds like you will have some lovely egg baskets in the coming months with the breeds you've chosen.

Welcome to BYC; It's good to meet you! Glad you finally joined and started following your heart.
