Starting all over again with chicks, here is my new coop and pen. We have 10 acres of land with a pond so as soon as babies are big enough the will have free range of the yard.

Well that look really nice , how many chicks will be in there?

Do you have a coop from the last chickens ?

Right now I have 5 in there i think 2 are roosters, which will be exchanged for hens as soon as we know for sure. We want 4 hens and one rooster. As for the old coop it and my home was destroyed in the hurricane. I did get away with all my animals including my 3 hens (had em in a dog crate till a neighbor here took them). I refused to leave my fur babies behind.

Wow @Tlco that’s really sad , I’m glad you and your babies are alright ..

Enjoy your new beginning,
You have a nice set up ❤️

Pen looks great, nice job!!
Hopefully pen is predator proof as that coop won't hold 5 birds,
I'm betting they'll roost on roof once of a size.

Coop is predator proof also house is rated for 6 birds. Although we will be adding a roost for them higher up in the pen. We thought about them roosting ontop of the house too, but we want to be able to scoop up the pooh for our gardens so that is why an additional roost. The house will then be just for laying of eggs. :)

With you being in Texas they would enjoy an outside roost I’m sure !

It’s hard to see the size of the coop and the nice big run makes it look tiny :),

But it’s up to you how you set it up , I’m from a very cold Canada and I need a big coop for winter time .

Enjoy ,
and stay safe

For the winter (sometime around Feb here) we have planks and a heavy tarp to hang on the sides. Also if we have too there is electricity in the coop for very secured heat lights. Once they are big enough they will have lots of room to roam in our yard and gardens.
How do you keep yours chickens warm during those cold winters?

We put plastic around the roofed part of the runs in October .. fill them with straw and tree stumps so they don’t have to stand in snow .

Our coop is insulated and heated til 0’C/32’F , we keep the door open unless there’s a blizzard .

So far no problems the rooster got frost bite one year but I had thrown him out of the coop for attacking me :(and I couldn’t catch him ....

This year I sold half my hens and added ducks , now we will see how that goes .

They have their own coops but the wall is chicken wire.

We have to keep learning and growing , I’ll be 50 next year and life is getting better everyday ❤️
