Hitter = hitman, not DV hitter. That is what I was thinking of. Thanks for clearing that up.

It can also stand for darn (actually that's not what I wrote but it was edited - you get the idea) husband

Of course the same works for DW

DH = Dear Husband, Darn Husband, or Dang Husband. In my case, Dear Husband.

BTW, I love baseball! It's the only sport worth watching in my book.
