The girls are about 20 weeks old or so. I didn't have them from chicks so I was able to build the coop and put them straight in it once I got them home. I got them from one of our local 4-H leaders out in Parma, Idaho who has been breeding birds on a small scale for awhile now and she is someone I really trust. I kind of figured that with the stress of the move I wouldn't be getting eggs for a few days but in the five days I've had them I've gotten 3. None from the Welsumer or Silkie yet...

I love the paint job. And keep work'n that lab -- I have a black lab too and she's great with the chickens. As far as she's concerned, they are strict competition for t.r.e.a.t.s.

Excellent job!

In my neighborhood, no rooster = no neighbor problems. Our CC&R's actually state that hens are ok, roos are not. We are on about 1/2 acre lots and the coop is far enough out that they don't really bug anyone. Besides, my neighbor on one side already has chickens and my neighbor on the other side will be happy to get a few fresh eggs now and then.

Right now the hens can run the yard if we are out there or when my lab is locked up inside. My lab isn't too used to them yet and still wants to "play" a little too hard. She's only about 1 1/2 years old and still has that puppy attitude most of the time. Good thing is that she's still trainable.
