Hello everyone! I am very new to the chicken world and thought I'd share my progress...
Built a basic coop in the garage. It's almost 5' x 5' x 4' high. The front and back of the coop is completely ventilated under the roof.
Covered the floor with some scrap linoleum I had.
My lovely bride wanted to paint it to match the house.
There's also a mobile run/tractor that's about 4' x 8' that attaches to the side of the coop or I can wheel it around the yard. Most of my predator issues are hawks and my own lab... I hope to get my lab trained over time to leave them alone. I will also be putting a solid roof and walls on a portion of the run so they have shade if I move it to another part of the yard.
The girls seem to be enjoying everything so far! They thought I was bringing them treats and came running.
They also enjoyed "helping" my wife and daughter with their garden prep work. Mmmmm... Tasty worms and bugs!
That's all for now. Next I am adding a window in the back wall and in the middle of the front door for more light and ventilation. Wish I'd done that from the beginning!
