New coop (LOTS OF PIX)

I think you did a great job! Your chickens are very lucky indeed. That is a nice addition to any yard.

I agree, put pine shavings (about medium in flake size works well) on the floor. With the lino down under it, it will be really easy to keep it clean.

Generally chickens like flat roosts better than round. They don't 'grab' onto the roost like other birds; they sit on their feet. A 2x4 with the 4" side up works great.

It looks so wonderful with all that green grass... enjoy it now.. it will be a dirt patch really soon.

Also, just a comment on the chain link run, although lots of people use them and never have an issue with predators... my own dogs (100 plus pounders) have torn through chain link like butter. So - just beware ... it's not completely predator proof. If were me I'd add two feet of hardware cloth around the bottom and bury it into the ground 15 to 18 inches also.

No cedar; people have lost chicks to cedar. Just about anything else you can find. Wood shavings (hardwoods and/or pine,) hay, straw, horse stall pellets, shredded paper, leaves, grass clippings. They all have some disadvantage. Chicks can get damaged legs from a slippery floor and I'm afraid the linoleum would be too slippery.

Very nice coop, Pine shavings is what I use on the floor. You might want to move the nesting boes down, in the picture they seem too high off the ground. My chickens like the nesting boxes about 3 or 4 inches off the ground. For the roosts I use 2 x 4 s and use the wide uside up.
