with a run of 20 x 6..... each chicken should have 10 feet each. you have 120 square feet - enough for 12 chickens. your flock should be very happy and comforable with that size run.

I was only going to get 4 hens for our family of 5, however, after time, we found out that 4 hens just weren't going to cut it. Especially since my family loves eggs any way you can make them-especially hard boiled!! (Which you have to store a few weeks before boiling). So now we have 6 hens laying, plus 1 roo, and are barely getting enough for daily usage, using to bake with, and saving up to hard boil. We will upgrade to about 9 hens I think.

Good thing your coop will be big enough to accomodate more hens in the future!!

You may find yourself wanting more too!! They are just so darn addictive!!

I did want to let you know a really cool tip that I read here on the site for cooking eggs and being able to peel them no matter how fresh. You get the water boiling, add your eggs gently so not to crack them, cook for 15-17 minutes (boil), then put into ice cold water. The shell just slips off! Best tip I have had in a long time!

I don't know where you are but are the openings for windows? I assume you are going to put in hardware cloth on the openings. Be sure you have enough ventilation.

wow...cute coop!! and those helpers arent so bad either!!..lol..they will love having chickens...I have 4 kids and they all have enjojed "moms gals"...I even catch DH out in the yard talking to them when he thinks no one is watching!!..Enjoy!
