Wow! Super duper chicken house! Must be nice to have a team of carpenters to be able to build something that nice! Me and my daughter fumbled through trying to build up our old horse stalls for hen houses.
We do have railroad beams but most are rotted away after 20 years of being used in the barn. I think I am going to use concrete blocks when we build up this next stall. We have an open front barn but I would love to be able to build one as nice as yours! I know you are really going to enjoy that!
Hah, I don't think I would call us a team of carpenters. My step dad is the only one even remotely close to knowing a thing or two about building structures. I came up with the concept and scrounged up the wood and he told me which ideas were good and which were not. Then he drove out and helped me put it up. Couldn't have done it without him.
I came up with the basic concept and my step father helped mold that into what we actually came up with. I wanted something inexpensive but something that would do the job. I am not a skilled carpenter/builder so I knew that framing in windows and more intricate features would not be realistic. I just needed something with four walls, a roof and lots of light since I live in the Northwest and our winters are long and dreary.
I spent about $350 on materials, but if I would have bought all the lumber instead of getting most of it free on craigs list, it would have been at least double that, if not more.
